Abortion Rights

We had abortion. We didn’t just have some half-assed, watered-down version of it; we had it all. It was a legally protected right. You didn’t need a doctor’s note to get one. If you wanted, you could have spent $20k getting knocked-up in vitro just so you could spend another $600 getting it ripped out because you were bored (a process which we know literally never happened because logic).

We lost that right. We all know what happened and I’m not going to insult your intelligence by pretending you don’t. However, now every mainstream Democrat is screaming that ‘we at least need to preserve the right to an abortion in cases of rape, incest and health of the mother’. You can even see left-leaning people crying about it online. But can I ask: What the hell kind of logic is that?

If I had $100 and you took it from me, I’m not going to beg for $30 back so I can pay for gas. I had $100. I want my $100 back. For other people to stand there, pretending that it’s okay to only ask for some of what I had back is demeaning and absurd.

We had the right of abortion and now we are begging for a fraction of what we once had. But this is the state of the left now. Damage control and pain mitigation. It’s almost as though we have accepted the direction of the tides and are simply asking that they be ever-so-slightly gentler. But that’s not the direction of the tides.

The right to abortion wasn’t stripped from us because our society largely believes it should be illegal. It was stripped from us because the religious right want to force their beliefs and morality down our throat every chance they get. And we just take it because we have the deep-seeded belief that they might be right. It’s not our fault, it’s how we were raised. We have been brainwashed into believing that the morals of the religious organizations are the correct ones. Just watch any movie from the 80’s and 90’s.

We have been programmed to not fight back as hard as we must because we instinctually believe that they have the upper hand. But they don’t. Access to abortion shouldn’t just be a right because it prevents long-term emotional damage in cases of rape and incest. Not just because it prevents physical damage or death concerning the health of the mother.

While nobody should have the right to remove existing life, we should all have the right to prevent life that has yet to exist (otherwise, we should be forced to reproduce with every prospective partner at various times regardless of our feeling on the matter). I don’t care if we are preventing the next cure for cancer or greatest invention. Personally, I wouldn’t never argue that we are potentially preventing the next Hitler. These are hypothetical absurdities devoid of any merrit and, thus, should be devoid of our attention.

My right to not reproduce with an individual should certainly be protected by law. It’s as simple as that. The law shouldn’t force marriage to an individual, whether that marriage is by contract or blood relation. This is a violation of our freedom to exist in a manner befitting of our own accord.

Ignore, even, the scientific determinations for why abortion should be legal. That it’s a bundle of cells, then a vague shape of a fetus, that it doesn’t have a heartbeat for such and such months. I hear those arguments and still don’t care. Your ‘heartbeat’ arguement doesn’t tug at my own ‘heartstrings’.

As far as I’m concerned, if it couldn’t survive on it’s own, outside of the womb, without invasive interference (machine intervention), then it isn’t life worth considering as alive. Some people may still fight hard with such intervention to protect such a potential life, and that’s great. But they do that, not out of the preservation of life, but out of the love for what life could come of it. But everyone shouldn’t be forced into such a position.

Begging for scraps might be the strategy of the Democrats, but I own a hell of a lot more self respect than to perform as a stray hound. I would encourage everyone to feel the same. We deserve the right to an abortion with only the restriction that the fetus couldn’t survive on it’s own without invasive interference. Asking for anything less is a sign that you have no self respect. It’s a sign that you still believe that the religious fanatics hold some kind of a moral high ground.

There is no middle ground here. You either know that you deserve the right in it’s entirety or you don’t.
